BELAGAVI: Belagavi is the largest district in the state in terms of population after Bengaluru. It covers two Lok Sabha constituencies - Belagavi and Chikkodi and a part of Uttar Kannada. Compared to the 2009 election, the number of voters in the district have been increased by 25%.
According to Election Commission sources, the number of voters in Belagavi has increased by 3,96,209 and by 3,07,087 in Chikkodi.
There are 17,49,005 enrolled voters in Belagavi and 15,79, 309 in Chikkodi. Due to various awareness programmes taken up by the district administration and the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee, the enrolment of voters has increased considerably in past few years.
Interestingly, the enrolment of women in the voters’ list in the past 10 years is comparatively higher than men, especially in Belagavi constituency. As many as 2,02,362 women have enrolled in the list Belagavi as against 1,93,848 men. In Chikkodi, 1,51,056 men and 1,51,031 women have been enrolled.
With the increase in the number of voters, the number of polling booths too has increased. While there were 1,376 booths in the 2009 election in Belagavi LS constituency, it is now 2,064. In Chikkodi, the number of booths has been increased from 1,260 to 1,885.
