Ready to return to state politics: Birender Singh

In his address, Birender said he was among the senior-most ministers in Prime Minister Narender Modi’s cabinet and now has no wish to contest the Lok Sabha elections. But was ready to contest the assembly elections to become a chief minister of Haryana if the party wished so, he added.

Birender, who is a known Jat face of state politics, made it clear that now he would only be involved in state politics. Since Independence, only five have become Union ministers from Haryana — Rao Birender Singh, Bansi Lal, Devi Lal, Bhajan Lal and

and all had served as chief minister but he is the only one in state politics who became a Union minister, he added.

Passing a sarcastic comment on Congress senior leader Sonia Gandhi, Birender said that he had asked to launch her daughter Priyanka Gandhi in active politics many years back, but due to love for son she launched Rahul Gandhi without seeing public interest and quality. In politics public interest is way above over personal choice, he added.

Birender, who hails from Dumarkha village of Jind, has been active in state politics for the last more than 40 years. His wife is an MLA from Ucahan
