LSP chief Saini fails to file papers against Hooda

CHANDIGARH: In a dramatic turn of events, Loktantra Suraksha Party (LSP) chief and sitting MP from Kurukshetra

Raj Kumar Saini

, who had announced to contest against former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, failed to file his nomination as a candidate from

Sonipat

constituency on the last day to file papers on Tuesday.

Minutes after JJP’s Digvijay Chautala left the returning officer’s office after filing his papers, Saini walked into in the RO’s office at the mini secretariat at 2.55pm. He came out of the room after an hour only to inform that he could not complete the documents.

Contrary to Saini’s claims that he was serious on contesting the elections, sources said his visit to RO’s office was a political gimmick.

“We just had five hours. While the DC had assured to help us in terms of property verification, getting details from banks was not possible. Hence, I could not file my nomination papers for the want of documents,” said Saini.

“We came to know about Hooda’s candidature on Monday morning. It takes time to gather documents and prepare an affidavit,” Saini said when asked about how he failed to complete the documents despite having enough time.

“Now Raj Bala will represent me and the alliance against Hooda,” he added.
