CHANDIGARH: The Congress party’s six-name list for Lok Sabha polls in Haryana released on Saturday evening had few surprises, but for fielding of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s confidant and sitting MLA, Lalit Nagar, from Faridabad.
Senior Congress leader and three-time MP Selja is the candidate for Ambala parliamentary constituency while HPCC chief Ashok Tanwar is party’s pick for Sirsa reserve seat.
Capt Ajay Singh is to contest from Gurugram, Deepender Hooda from Rohtak, Shruti Choudhary from Bhiwani Mahendergarh seat and Lalit Nagar from Faridabad.
We will win with good margin: Ashok Tanwar after naming nominees
The names of 5 of the candidates were made known during the Parivartan Bus Yatra held last month. “This is not the list of candidates, but the first list of winners of Congress from Haryana. ...All enjoy public support,’’ said Ashok Tanwar, adding that the party was heading for a clean sweep in Haryana like 2005 and 2009.
Deepender, seeking reelection for the fourth time from this constituency, has made it tough for other parties to decide on their candidates. Capt Ajay Singh will be pitted against Rao Inderjit Singh, who has already made it a hat-trick from Gurugram. Both leaders are arch rivals. The AAP-JJP alliance is also likely to announce a Yadav candidate from Gurugram.
Selja, a Rajya Sabha member, was elected from Ambala in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha polls. She was nominated to Rajya Sabha in 2014 and her term ends in 2020. She will be facing Ratan Lal Kataria of BJP.

Tanwar will be contesting against Sunita Duggal of BJP and Janak Raj of BSP-LSP alliance. JJP and INLD are yet to announce their candidates. The seat is currently held by Charanjit Singh Rori of INLD, and this constituency is considered Chautalas' stronghold.
“Electorate has blessed me twice from here. In the past five years, people have realized the importance of Congress party and its leaders. We shall emerge winners and with a good margin,’’ said Tanwar.
Shruti Choudhary will be taking on a Yadav candidate fielded by LSP-BSP alliance and Dharamvir Singh, the sitting BJP MP who had defeated her last time. The JJP-AAP alliance may field Digvijay Chautala or Naina Chautala from this constituency.
