Inderjit hopes to retain Gurugram seat, will file papers on Apr 19
GURUGRAM: Filing of nominations for Gurugram parliamentary constituency will start from Monday, April 19.
BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh has announced he will file his nomination papers on April 19, after a rally in the city.
Although voting in Gurugram and the rest of the state is scheduled for the last phase of polling, on May 12, until now, no other political party barring BJP has announced their candidates.
That includes Congress,
The Congress is expected to announce its candidates for the state in the next couple of days, while the other parties are expected to take more time to decide their candidates. Despite uneasy relations between Rao Inderjit and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP workers are working hard to ensure another victory for the Union minister.
Haryana BJP spokesperson and Gurugram MLA Umesh Agarwal said the BJP candidate and incumbent MP will file his nomination papers on April 19.
“Before filing his nomination at the mini secretariat, Rao Inderjit will address a rally at Gaushala Maidan, near the Gurugram bus stand. From there, he’ll take out a procession to the deputy commissioner’s office to file his nomination,” he said.
Before that, Singh is expected to inaugurate his assembly-level election office at Sheetla Mata Mandir road in the evening of April 13.
He said the party is working to ensure a bigger margin of victory.
Around 20.34 lakh voters will decide the fate of candidates in the General Elections for the Gurugram seat, which covers three districts — Gurugram, Rewari and Mewat. The number of voters has increased from 18.43 lakh in 2014.
In 2014, Rao Inderjit had got 6.44 lakh votes, with the INLD candidate, who came second, getting 3.70 lakh votes.
“The difference was so big it will be very difficult for other parties to even come close,” said a BJP leader.
