JIND: BJP’s star campaigner and sitting MP
Hema Malini canvassed for the party’s Sonipat candidate Ramesh Kaushik, who is seeking re-election from the seat, in Jind on Thursday. Seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said, “He (Modi) has carried out lots of development works in the country.” Claiming that there was wave in his favour, she said the BJP would return to form the government at the Centre again.
Claiming that under Modi's leadership, India had gained a recognition in global arena, she said, “Modi ji ne aas paas ke deshon ke liye dar paida kar diya hai, kyunki sab Modi ji se darte hai (Modi has created a fear among neighbouring countries, as all fear him).”
Striking an emotional chord with the people, she gave a political spin to her dialogue from famous ‘Sholay’ film, saying, “Chal Dhanno, aaj teri Basanti ki izzat ka sawal hai, aur yahan ke candidate Ramesh Kaushik ko jitaye nahi to hum bahut bura maan jayenge (It is a matter of prestige for me that I help local candidate Ramesh Kaushik win, else I would be very upset”. She said her husband and actor Dharmendra also sought votes for her saying, “Basanti ko vote de dena, nahin to mein phir se tanki pe chadh jaunga (vote for Hema, otherwise I’ll again climb up the water tank).”
