1.8 crore to seal Haryana’s Lok Sabha deal today

In all, 1.8 crore electors in the state will exercise their franchise. Women representation continues to be poor in the state, comprising just 11 of the 223 contestants. Of the 19,411 polling stations, 5,510 are urban and 13,931are rural. Haryana joint electoral officer Inder Jeet Singh said 1,020 polling booths would be under video surveillance during polling, which will be held from 7am to 6pm. “Instructions have been issued to all staff. We will monitor polling at all levels. Nearly 1.25 lakh employees and officers will be on election duty. We will use 22,819 control units, 44,374 ballot units and 24,451 VVPAT machines,’’ he said.
Election staff includes 82,754 on polling duty, 9,911 PWD volunteers, 9,227 microobservers, 1,634 sector magistrates, 900 zonal magistrates, returning officers and assistant returning officers, in addition to district election officers and nodal officers, he added. Voters whose name is not on the electoral list can vote by showing their EPIC (electors photo identity card). If any voter does not have an EPIC and their name is on the list, they could vote by showing any of the 11alternative photo IDs specified by the Election Commission. Haryana DGP Manoj Yadav said elaborated security measures had been taken for free and fair polls. In a press release, he stated officials and security forces had been told to not tolerate any law and order trouble, and be courteous to citizens going to vote.
