Director general of police (DGP) Manoj Yadava said on Wednesday that 2,68,533 litres of liquor comprising IMFL, beer and country-made liquor valued at over Rs 4.52 crore have been seized during this period. Police teams have also seized intoxicants of more than Rs 5.09 crore. Apart from unaccounted cash worth over Rs 2.40 crore, police also seized precious metal of more than Rs 1.12 crore and freebies of Rs 33,000 since the model code of conduct came into force.

The DGP said that 402 unlicensed arms and 644 cartridges have also been seized by the police teams. He said that licence-holders are mandated to deposit their arms in respective police stations before the elections. In view of these instructions, 99,123 licenced arms have also been deposited by people in different police stations across the state.

He said that complete nakabandi has been put in place at interstate borders to counter the flow of illicit liquor, cash and drug as well as prevent any unlawful activity during the election process. “Checking has been intensified by our teams as a result of which dreaded and notorious gangs including bail jumpers, parole jumpers and proclaimed offenders were apprehended," he said.

He said that police officers were also instructed to closely monitor the social media during the election process. Police teams in every district are working in this direction and action is taken against anti-social elements indulging in spreading rumours on such platforms. Our sole aim is to conduct fair, transparent and incident-free election and all necessary steps have been taken in this direction.
