PANAJI: The
Election Commission of India should adopt a lenient view and permit Christians to use sound systems during Lenten services and for the Easter vigil mass, said deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai.
Sardesai said that the Goa Forward Party would meet the Chief Electoral Officer for Goa to discuss the issue."Goa Forward Party will request the Election Commission to exempt traditional religious activities in Goa from the sound ban under the noise pollution rules," said Sardesai.
"All religions should come in the ambit of this exemption."
In a tweet, Sardesai further said, "This is relevant due to ongoing Lenten season and pre-Easter services." Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will be held on April 18 and 19, respectively.
