Goa Congress comes out in Mamata's support, says EC subservient to BJP
PANAJI: The Goa unit of the Congress party on Thursday expressed apprehension over the Election Commission's "proximity to the BJP top brass" and urged the Election Commission of India to rethink its role in the current elections being held across the country.
The Congress party also expressed reservations about the Goa chief electoral officer not being a "neutral officer”.
The party has written several letters to EC and President Ram Nath Kovind, voicing their concern but Congress party media convener Trajano D’Mello said that with EC acting “subservient” to PM Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah not much was hoped for.
D’Mello justified his statement by pointing out that the Election Commission cut short campaigning in
“What it has done in Bengal shows that it is biased. It allowed the PM’s rallies to be completed and then curtailed the campaign timings,” said D’Mello.
He said that the BJP was extremely nervous ahead of the results of the elections which will be out on May 23.
