PANAJI: Largely buoyed by a rise in the market value of the real estate he owns, Congress North Goa candidate Girish Chodankar’s net worth is estimated to be Rs 1.4 crore, a 20% jump since 2017 when he contested the

Panaji

byelection against former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

According to the sworn affidavit submitted before North Goa collector R Menaka, Chodankar owns 322 sqm of land in Borda, Margao, and a 2,142 sqm residence at Gogol, together valued at Rs 1.1 crore.

A comparative analysis of his assets and liabilities shows that Chodankar’s assets have increased to Rs 1.4 crore as against the Rs 1.2 crore he reported in the run-up to the 2017 Panaji bypoll. His liabilities, too, have increased by 54%, rising from Rs 11.4 lakh to Rs 17.6 lakh.

Chodankar claims to own no vehicle but has two cars a Ford Figo and a Maruti Ertiga registered in his wife’s name. Chodankar is a teacher by profession while his wife is an insurance agent.

The 52-year-old Lok Sabha aspirant’s affidavit also states that he neither has criminal cases pending against him nor a conviction.
