NEW DELHI: Starting early on Wednesday, CongressChandni Chowk candidate, J P Agarwal, decided to visit the parks in Ashok Vihar to catch up with morning joggers before heading to Shaktinagar, Wazirpur Extension and Adarsh Nagar.
Everywhere, he sought votes for Congress while hitting out at the sitting MP, BJP’s Harsh Vardhan, for being absent from the locality.
“BJP’s sheet of lies have been torn apart, now Congress’ sun of truth will come out,” he claimed. Despite being a Union minister, Harsh Vardhan hasn’t got any new project for the area, he alleged.
In two parks at H and CD blocks of Ashok Vihar Phase-III, Agarwal spoke to the surprised joggers — elderly people and youths — telling them about Congress’ promises and sharing his thoughts about current political and social situations.
“Today is a difficult time for all of us. The BJP leaders, who misled the country by making false promises five years ago, are active again. Instead of providing the promised two crore jobs, the Modi government has taken away the jobs of thousands of people,” he alleged. “The public is alert now. I assure you that we will provide Rs 72,000 annually to the poor, as promised by Rahul-ji under the Nyay scheme. This is not a jumla, it’s our promise.”
Former party MLA Harikishan Gupta said, “Agarwal is a well known face, who always works for people. That is why so many people have come out to greet him.”
Addressing a number of traders residing near the Indralok gurdwara, Agarwal said, “Demonetisation, GST and the sealing drive have hit the business class badly. The Modi government never paid attention to their worries. Thousands of families are finding it hard to earn a square meal properly.”

Referring to the long queues during the demonetisation, he pointed out, “Several people had lost their lives while trying to get their own hard-earned money. Soon after the jolt of demonetisation came GST, further complicating their lives.”
At Wazirabad’s JJ Colony, around 15,000 voters greeted him with the cries of ‘Congress Zindabad’. “The AAP and BJP candidates are outsiders. Only I am an inhabitant of the area and know about the constituency,” he said.
