...But AAP campaigns for all 7 seats
NEW DELHI: The
AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai on Monday said that Congress was “extremely confused” about the alliance even as he claimed that BJP would lose all 17 seats (10 in Haryana and seven in Delhi) if the two alliances — with Congress in Delhi and a three-way tie-up in Haryana that also involves JJP — came to fruition.
Even as backroom negotiations between the two parties continue in Delhi, Kejriwal has maintained that voting for Congress meant voting for BJP. All the seven candidates named by AAP in Delhi are also campaigning in full steam. AAP on Monday announced that it had completed the first phase of electioneering and the second phase would start from April 10 where the party intends to connect with 35 lakh voters.
Rai said: “In the first phase, we explained to people the significance of full statehood for Delhi. We also exposed the lies of Congress and BJP on the issue.” He claimed that both opposition parties were now on the back foot. Rai said that AAP’s preparation was so strong that BJP was unable to zero in on its candidates for Delhi.
Under the first phase of campaigning, AAP leaders had burned copies of BJP’s 2014 manifesto, claiming that the party had failed to keep its promise on statehood. “Now, every household in Delhi is talking about statehood,” Rai said. As many as 13,814 booth presidents and 70,000 vijay pramukhs (grass roots workers) will apprise people of the work done by AAP, including supply of free water, subsidised electricity, doorstep delivery of services and infrastructure development in unauthorised colonies, an AAP leader said.
