Out of 6.37 lakh voters in Chandigarh, over 2016,215 in 18-19 age group
CHANDIGARH: The city has registered a total of 6,37,990 voters, and the numbers will go up in a few days as the election department is yet to scrutinise 8,000 applications received. As far as the security arrangements are concerned, one CRPF company has already reached the city and four more companies of different central forces will arrive shortly. Election department so far has succeeded in spreading awareness about VVPAT machines amid at least 30,000 voters.
As per the schedule, notification for elections
While briefing the media, returning officer-cum-DC Mandip Brar said, “In Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, there are 597 polling booths and 191 polling stations in total and this time 100 additional polling stations have been constituted as compared to last general election. As per the current assessment, only 212 polling booths have been found to be in sensitive category. The counting centre has been set up in Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26, Chandigarh.”
Brar added that as on date, there are a total of 6,37,990 voters in Chandigarh, out of which 3,37,417 are male voters and 3,00,553 are female voters and 20 are others. There are total 16,215 voters in the age group of 18-19 years, of which 9,307 are male voters and 6908 are female voters.
To conduct free and fair elections in the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, the election department has deployed 19 assistant returning officers, and 60 sector officers in different areas of the city. Besides above, in each sub-division, four flying squad teams and four static surveillance teams are already operational, since the announcement of election. Moreover, four video surveillance teams and a video viewing team are also operational.
A 24x7 district control room has already been operational since the date of announcement of elections. Any citizen can make a call to register complaint or request information on election matters.

parliamentary constituency has been issued on Monday. The last date of filing nominations is April 29, 2019 and the scrutiny of nominations will be done on April 30. The withdrawal of candidature can be done by May 2, 2019. The polling in Chandigarh parliamentary constituency will take place on May 19, 2019 and counting will be done on May 23, 2019.Brar added that as on date, there are a total of 6,37,990 voters in Chandigarh, out of which 3,37,417 are male voters and 3,00,553 are female voters and 20 are others.
