Taking a note of their issues, Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon told them about the Modi government’s farmer-friendly schemes such as Kisan Nidhi Yojana, under which small cultivators get a top-up of Rs 6,000 a year as direct bank transfer. Besides, if there is no harvest due to natural calamity or related issues, the Crop Insurance Scheme covers the loss.
Tandon said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) had created artificial scarcity of seeds and manure in its previous tenure, with a mala fide intention of letting intermediaries exploit farmers. He said: “The Modi government introduced neemcoated urea to curb the black marketing of fertiliser. The cases of farmers’ suicide due to their inability to repay the loans have reduced with higher minimum price guarantee for their produce. This has multiplied farmers’ income as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
He said: “The latest technology in farming was available for a subsidised price, Farmers also were given information and knowledge on cash crops and maximising yield. Soil Health Card helped farmers identify their soil type and grow the best-suited crop that guaranteed optimum yield. The Modi government is determined to double the farmers’ income.” Tandon said the farmers had agreed with him that “Modi hai to mumkin hai (it’s possible if there is Modi)”.
