Nalanda villagers threaten to boycott parliamentary elections
BIHARSHARIF: Angry over lack of basic amenities, residents of Kaidi Milkipur under Noorsarai block in Nalanda district locked up the village primary school and anganwadi centre and refused administering of pulse polio drops to their children on Tuesday. They also threatened to boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
Nandu Kumar, one of the agitators said that his village is barely 6km from the district headquarters but it has no pucca road connected to the main road which is about 2km away. “During every general and state elections leaders of different political parties come here to garner support and promise to fulfill our demand but nothing has happened till date,” added Nandu.
Another resident Jagdeo said that this time the public will teach a lesson to the leaders for befooling them. “The ‘kachha’ road in the village becomes a veritable hell during the rainy season. It becomes very difficult for us even to take a patient to the hospital,” Jagdeo said.
Manoj said they will continue to protest till their demands are fulfilled. Another resident Prakash Kumar said village roads, which were supposed to be made pucca under chief minister Nitish Kumar's ‘seven resolves’ are still untouched.
Nalanda DM Yogendra Kumar Singh said district officials went to Kaidi Milkipur village to find an amicable solution. He said the villagers have finally agreed to get pulse polio drops for their children.
The DM further added that negotiations with the villagers is still going on. The village is a part of Nalanda assembly constituency represented by state rural development and parliamentary affairs minister Shrawan Kumar. Meanwhile, residents of Nawaji Bigha village under Hargawan panchayat of Biharsharif block also staged a protest over lack of concrete road from their village to the main road which is around 1.5km away. They also said that would boycott the polls and EVMs from their village will remain untouched.
While residents of Ali Nagar locality staged a dharna to protest inadequate water supply to their area. Later they held a meeting at the local community hall and decided not to participate in electioneering as several political parties had promised to improve the situation but they virtually forget their promises.
