A former MLA from Govindganj in West
Over phone, Rajan said he would work as a "nishthawan" (dedicated) worker of BJP. He hails from Sohgaura village in Gorakhpur district of UP. He later settled in West Champaran's Bagaha.
Rajan had defeated Bhupendra Nath Dubey, the brother of don and former MLA late Devendra Dubey, in 2000 as an independent from Govindganj. He unsuccessfully contested assembly polls in February 2005 and October 2005.
Rajan's entry into BJP assumes significance as he is a Brahmin and enjoys the support of the sizeable community in the Champaran region.
