'Feeling uncomfortable coming to Bengal’: BJP MLA Maithili Thakur raises law and order concerns during election campaign
KOLKATA: BJP MLA Maithili Thakur, who is campaigning in the state for the upcoming assembly elections, commented on the law and order situation in West Bengal.Maithili Thakur expressed her views on the political atmosphere, stating that the ruling party can make any claims, while the role of the opposition is to speak out, and their own responsibility is to focus on serving the people.She further said that she felt uncomfortable while visiting Bengal, reflecting her concerns about the prevailing situation.
She also emphasized her identity as a daughter of Bihar, adding that she feels safe there.Maithili Thakur said, "Didi can say anything. The opposition's job is to say anything and our job is to serve the people. I am the daughter of Bihar and we are very safe. I was feeling a bit uncomfortable coming to Bengal. Change will come in 2026. This time Bengal will wake up."During her visit, she met Ratna Debnath, the mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim, and the BJP candidate from Panihati in its third list of nominees for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.“Even in such difficult circumstances, her courage is an inspiration for all of us. Not just all of Bengal, but every woman in the country and every Indian stands firmly with her today,” she added.
Earlier, while campaigning in Bengal, Thakur said she had heard Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message dedicated to women. She said her heart was moved, noting that an important proposal related to women’s empowerment could not pass in Parliament this time.She added that the voice for women’s rights and security would continue to rise, stating that respect and safety are the right of every woman.(With agency inputs)
