DEHRADUN: In a bid to ensure smooth and impartial conduct of the upcoming assembly elections in the state, district election officer, Ravinath Raman held a meeting on Friday with NIC officials and representatives of political parties in Doon for the randomisation of electronic voting machines (EVM).
It is learnt that in the ten vidhan-sabhas of Dehradun district, 2320 EVM’s will be put to use in the upcoming elections on February 15, post the randomisation and there would be 1725 polling booths in all, some of these EVMs will however also be kept for training purpose while some will be kept in reserve.
The ten vidhan-sabhas under Doon district include –Chakrata which will have 216 booths wherein 290 EVMs were randomised, Vikas Nagar will have 125 polling booths (184 EVMs randomised), Sahaspur will have 184 booths (249 EVMs), Dharampur will have 176 booths(263 EVMs), Raipur will have 190 booths (225 EVMs), Rajpur will have 150 booths (202 EVMs), Dehradun cant. will have 137 booths (185 EVMs), Mussoorie will have 164 booths (220 EVMs), Doiwala will have 173 booths (231 EVMs), Rishikesh will have 180 booths (237 EVMs)
The randomisation of EVMs is done to prevent any tampering with them ahead of the polls and under the process of randomising the voting machines, the machines are selected randomly before being sent to polling stations, such that nobody of influence can get to know the whereabouts of any specific EVM beforehand.
