DEHRADUN: Taking a swipe at the BJP, former Union minister and

senior Congress leader Manish Tewari

on Tuesday said that the party did not trust its Uttarakhand and as a result a battery of its national leaders were being rushed to the state to fillip the party campaign.

"Going by the way, the top BJP leaders have made a beeline to the Himalayan state, it appears that either Narendra Modi or Amit Shah is aiming to become the CM," said Tewari.

In the last few weeks, almost entire BJP top brass including Modi, Shah and Rajnath Singh have come to Uttarakhand to campaign for the party and its candidates. "They are neither willing to disclose the CM face nor do they have any development plan, therefore the national leaders are the only hope for the party to help it come to power. However, the party had forgotten that the state leaders will run the government and not the national leaders," said the Congress leaders.

According to Tewari, the strategy had backfired on BJP in Bihar and a similar fate awaits the party in Uttarakhand.

On being asked that why only a few Congress national leaders had come to Uttarakhand, he claimed that the state leaders are more aware of the situation. He added, "Our seniors are scheduled to come to Uttarakhand but our state leaders are heading the campaign and we trust them and are confident that we will retain the state."

He was of the view that the "step-motherly" treatment meted out to the state by the BJP-led NDA government would help Congress in its campaign. "First the budgets were slashed and when all efforts failed a futile effort was made to topple a democratically-elected government. Uttarakhand is a perfect example of the BJP towards states ruled by other political parties," said Tewari.

The senior Congress leader maintained that the NDA government had failed on all fronts including communal harmony, political stability, financial progress, internal security and international issues. "In the last 31 months, the BJP has failed to fulfill its commitments and all it has given to the country is false promises," he added.
