DEHRADUN: A total of 90 candidates filed their set of
nomination papers
from different seats of
Uttarakhand
on Tuesday. With this the total number of candidates to file their nomination papers has gone up to 215.
As candidates cannot file their nominations on January 26, only two days are left for the process. A high number of candidates are expected to file their nomination papers on Wednesday and Friday.
CM Harish Rawat
would submit his papers at Udham Singh Nagar collectorate for Kiccha constituency on Wednesday, whereas he would file the nomination papers from Haridwar Rural on Friday.
On Tuesday, several prominent politicians including Raj Kumar Thukral, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Harish Chandra Durgapal, Dan Singh Bhandari, Pradeep Batra, Godavri Thapli and Heera Singh filed their nomination papers.
The official data of
Election Commission show that six candidates filed nominations from Uttarkashi, four each from Chamoli and Rudraprayag, 10 from Tehri, 13 from Dehradun, 11 from Haridwar, 11 from Pauri, 4 from Pithoragarh, 1 from Bageshwar, 10 from Almora, 1 from Champavat, 7 from Nainital and 8 from Udham Singh Nagar district.
Sources pointed out that a total of 899 candidates had contested elections in 2012 polls and the number is expected to be a big one in 2017 also. They maintained that high number of candidates are expected to
file nominations
on Wednesday and Friday.
