KOCHI: The Kerala high court ordered for an urgent action on setting up polling stations near to tribal settlements in Kuttampuzha region in Ernakulam.


Justice PV Asha considered a petition filed by 55-year-old Chunkan Thayappan and two other tribals through advocate AC Devasia.

Voters from Uriyampetty, Warriam, and Thera settlement colonies have to travel for three to five hours through dense forest to reach a polling station.

There are 76 families in Uriyampetty, 80 in Warriam and 26 families in Thera settlement colonies but no polling station has been provided for them.

The court said it is of the view that the plea has to be urgently considered and directed the chief electoral officer to take a decision within two weeks.
