NEW DELHI: BJP candidate Devender Singh Rana won the Nagorta constituency by a margin of 30,472 votes, as per the latest EC data.
Nagrota is one of the 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. It is in Jammu district and part of the Jammu parliamentary constituency. Polling in Nagrota for the
Jammu and Kashmir assembly election 2024 took place on October 1st in the third phase.
BJP nominated Devender Singh Rana as its candidate from the assembly seat in the election. In the 2014 assembly election, Devender Singh Rana of the JKN party won with 23,678 votes (39.03%), defeating BJP's Nand Kishore, who secured 19,630 votes (32.35%), with a victory margin of 4,048 votes.
In the 2008 assembly election, Jugal Kishore of BJP won with 11,141 votes (22.76%), narrowly beating MK Ajat Shatru of JKN, who received 9,521 votes (19.45%), with a margin of 1,620 votes. Nagrota village has a population of 711, comprising 374 males and 337 females, according to the 2011 Census. The population primarily comprises Scheduled Castes (39.94%), with Scheduled Tribes making up just 0.84%. Nagrota’s literacy rate is 81.49%, surpassing the state average of 67.16%.
Polling in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote counting scheduled for October 8.
