NEW DELHI: Union minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said the moment results of the Delhi assembly elections start to trickle in on February 11, the process of clearing the protests at Shaheen Bagh would also begin.

A patch of the road on Delhi-Noida border has been occupied by the protesters at Shaheen Bagh for the past 50 days, which has now become one of the key issues in the assembly elections.

“Shaheen Bagh is totally backed by Arvind Kejriwal (CM) and Manish Sisodia (deputy CM). When each and every voter of Delhi will press the lotus button (on the EVM), the clearance of Shaheen Bagh will start,” Thakur, who was briefly banned from campaigning for a controversial remark during an election rally, said at a press conference at Delhi BJP office.

Thakur also welcomed local AAP and Congress workers from North West Delhi who switched over to BJP. He added that the newly-joined BJP members had left the “anti-national” forces and joined the party of “nationalists.”

“The anti-national activities at Shaheen Bagh disappointed them. They were promised development, but basic infrastructure like roads, drains, health and education in their areas only went from bad to worse. They felt cheated. Now, they feel since other citizens in the country are availing free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat scheme, why are Delhiites deprived of it,” Thakur said.

He added that within a month of BJP forming the government, Ayushman Bharat would be implemented in Delhi. He also promised extension of Delhi Metro services to Narela. He claimed that after BJP forms the government in Delhi, development would get a major push.
