CHENNAI: Results of the Joint Entrance Examination, scores of which will be used for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology across the country, were published this morning. Arpit Agarwal from Faridabad is said to have bagged the top rank with a score of 385 of 401.Celebrations took a backseat, with most high rankers of the test away at the Olympiad coaching camp in Bombay.
"Many of my friends who are among the top 100 are away at the camp. I guess they will celebrate there," said Vaishakh R of Chennai, who scored 343 of 401 to secure the 36th all-India rank. Coaching institutes, however, are pulling all stops to bask in the success of their wards. Coaching institute FIITJEE will be hosting its annual party to mark the success of its candidates by cutting a large cake later today.
Around 5.6 lakh students took the IIT-JEE on April 8 to gain admission to the 9,600 seats in 15 IITs across the country. Officials at the IIT-JEE office in Chennai had the difficult task of telling many of the candidates calling up to ask about the results that they would not be selected. An official was overheard saying on the phone, "Your son’s rank is too low. I suggest you look out for a seat in one of the other engineering colleges as soon as possible."
