Singapore Tourism Board through the brand name of ''Singapore Education'' organised a road show in Delhi recently to capture the growing education market in India. This road show extends to other metros like Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai. Most of Singapore''s top institutions and universities like Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Institute of Management and Management Development Institute of Singapore participated in this road show.
In fact, institutes offering speciality courses in the areas of fashion, design, hospitality and culinary preparation were part of the show.
The director, Education Services, Singapore Education, Magdalene Lee said: "Our education system is based on three pillars which are student welfare, business excellence and academic excellence. Moreover, our endeavour is to provide these to all the students by way of certifying and accrediting educational institutes."
According to Lee, "Singapore is moving towards being the Asian education hub providing world-class facilities. Our courses as well as curricula are industry-relevant. Because we attract students from all over the world and have collaborations with the top universities across the globe, the students here get a global learning experience." She remarked that the obvious advantage for the Indian students was they received excellent education closer home. "Their parents can visit them more often and can be reassured that their wards are in a familiar environment. The students studying in some of the universities and polytechnics are entitled to up to 70 per cent tutorial grant by the Singapore Government towards their course fee. To avail this grant, the students will have to work for a company registered in Singapore for a period of three years after the completion of their course," she elaborated.
The area director, Northern India Singapore Board, Merzban Majoo said: "Education is a key growth sector for us at the Singapore Tourism Board. We take a serious and concerned approach towards developing this sector. India has traditionally been a valued and important market for Singapore and with the sound reputation that Singapore Education enjoys, we are confident that students from North India will be attracted to the wide array of schools and programmes Singapore Education has to offer."
This was in fact the second road show by Singapore Education this year. This was held to market the uniquely-empowering educational opportunities to graduate and postgraduate students. Come November and the Board will again be back with the World MBA tour proving that India is an important market.
