Widow murdered for gold in Vizianagaram

Visakhapatnam: A 54-year-old widow was allegedly killed for over 24 gms of gold chain in her residence at Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district late on Saturday evening.
The victim was identified as M Suryakantham.
Inspector of Kothavalasa B Surya Rao said that an unidentified person sneaked into her house on Saturday after 11 pm and tried to snatch her Mangalasutra weighing over 24 gms.
When the widow resisted the offender’s attempt and tried to raise alarm, he hit her with a blunt weapon and snatched the gold chain and managed to flee from the spot.
When the widow’s son came home, he was shocked to see his mother in a pool of blood and unconscious. He immediately took her to government hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Based on information, the police along with the clues team inspected the crime scene. The police have formed a special team to nab the accused.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the offender came alone to commit the crime. The widow has three sons and of them were working outside the state and the youngest was living with her.
He went out in the evening to chat with his friends. No other valuable item was missing. The body was shifted for post-mortem and a case has been registered and the investigation is underway.
