VISAKHAPATNAM: Joint Action committee (JAC) of Visakhapatnam trade unions and people’s organizations on Monday urged the central government to announce in Parliament to stop the disinvestment move of Vizag Steel Plant.

The JAC would form a human chain on April 1 in protest against the privatisation of the plant.

All the unions and organizations have been staging protests over the issue.

The agitations at the Gandhi statue would complete two years by April 1.

AITUC Andhra Pradesh general secretary and JAC vice chairman Padala Ramana and JAC chairman Jaggu Naidu alleged that the central government has been trying to put the plant in losses by not providing working capital, captive mines and supply of raw materials.

If the steel plant was sold out, around Rs 3 lakh crore public money would go into the hands of private persons, 6,500 displaced persons would not get justice and the government would get revenue-loss to the tune of thousands of crores, they said.
