Tollywood steps in to lend a hand to Titli-hit Srikakulam
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Telugu film fraternity has stepped in once again, as it has done in the past, to lend a helping hand to those affected by Cyclone
While Jr NTR has donated Rs 15 lakh for cyclone relief, his brother Kalyan Ram has donated Rs 5 lakh. “Jr NTR has always responded to natural disasters and donated to the relief efforts of the government,” says a spokesman of the actor.
Actors Vijay Devarakonda and Varun Tej have also contributed Rs 5 lakh each. While some actors donated cash, others like Nikhil and Navdeep decided to help with the relief efforts. “The more we travel the more we are finding villages that weren’t address. The cyclone and the flood in the
Actor Manoj Kumar Manchu, who is also involved in rescue effort, tweeted “Thanks to the NGOs, students, ruling government and non-ruling parties, police officials, rescue teams, fans, fellow actors and many more for coming forward to support our very own Srikakulam... Love is in the air.” Manchu has reportedly promised to adopt a few villages to ensure that the children there would get a good education.
Asked whether the actors hoped to score some points with fans by making donations for relief work after natural disasters, actor Adivi Sesh, 32, told TOI on Tuesday, “That is not the case. Actors want to help less fortunate countrymen, battered by natural disasters, by donating.”
“The film fraternity in Hyderabad has always been alive to the happenings in the country. They have contributed towards the relief of people in Kerala after the floods there in August. It would be wrong to say that they are donating to score points with fans,” says Sesh.
Sesh said that he preferred to keep the information about his donations private. “The donation is between me and the recipient. I see no reason for the world to know,” he said.
