Mother, daughter die of viral fever in Manyam

Visakhapatnam: M Durga (40) and M Chaitanya (20), a mother and daughter duo from Batlabhadra village in Parvathipuram Manyam district, tragically lost their lives to viral thrombocytopenia.
According to the locals, Durga began experiencing a fever on August 13. She initially received treatment at a private hospital in Parvathipuram. However, her condition worsened, prompting a referral to another private hospital in Vizianagaram on August 22. Unfortunately, Durga passed away the following day, August 23. District health authorities had previously identified Durga's illness during a routine door-to-door fever survey. Despite negative tests for malaria and dengue, Durga was advised to seek treatment at the local primary health centre. However, she opted for a private facility. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to a private hospital in Vizianagaram, but only in vain.
M Chaitanya, a 20-year-old BTech student in a college near Tagarapuvalasa, was diagnosed with sickle cell anaemia during an RDT test. Unfortunately, she declined further evaluation. When she visited her mother, Durga, on August 15, Chaitanya also developed a fever.
Treated on an outpatient basis at the same private hospital in Parvathipuram, subsequent tests on August 19 confirmed viral thrombocytopenia. Her health rapidly declined, leading to an emergency referral to a private hospital in Srikakulam on August 23. Sadly, Chaitanya passed away that same night. Dr. K Vijaya Parvati, the district medical and health officer, said the district malaria officer and deputy DMHO personally visited Batlabhadra village following the tragic events.
"We conducted a door-to-door fever survey, implemented anti-larval operations, and fogging to control mosquito populations. A medical camp was organised to raise awareness about diseases like malaria and dengue. Areas susceptible to mosquito breeding were identified," said Dr. Parvati.
