Sources in the police said that the victim is a second year BSc student at a private college in Anakapalli town while the accused, Sai Kiran, is also a student at the same college. Sai Kiran had been

harassing

the girl to marry him. After the girl’s parents admonished Sai Kiran and asked him to wait some more years before getting married, Sai Kiran developed a grudge against the girl and her family and started to suspect her fidelity.

On Wednesday, Sai Kiran took the girl near a cinema theatre and

stabbed

her on the neck and tried to flee from the spot. Locals thrashed Sai Kiran and handed him over to police.

The injured girl was admitted to a government hospital at Anakapalli, where her condition is said to be stable.
