In June, Andhra Pradesh had 62% excess rainfall: IMD

VISAKHAPATNAM: The state has recorded 62 per cent excess rainfall in June, compared to the normal.

According to the India Meteorological Department IMD-Amaravati, against the normal rainfall of 94.1 mm, the state received 152.1 mm from June 1 to 30, the first months of the southwest monsoon.

All districts recorded excess rainfall, barring Prakasam district, which recorded a deficit of 3 per cent.

The coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) comprising 18 districts and Yanam subdivision in the state recorded 32 per cent excess rainfall in June. The sub-division has received 144.6 mm of rainfall against the normal rainfall of 109.5 mm in June.

Rayalaseema (eight districts) subdivision in the state recorded 122 per cent of excess rainfall in June. The subdivision has received 160.9 mm of fall against the normal of 72.3 mm of rainfall.

Of the total 26 districts in the state, Sri Sathya Sai district recorded 173 per cent (highest) of excess rainfall in the state while Prakasam district recorded a deficit of 3 per cent in June.

The weathermen said that many parts of the state will experience good rainfall in July. The farmers said the recent rains will help the kharif season in many parts of the state.

The area under cultivation during the kharif season is around 90 lakh acres in the state and over 60 percent of the farms in AP are still rain dependent.
