Heavy rains likely to continue in coastal districts till tomorrow

Visakhapatnam: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, for north coastal Andhra Pradesh districts and a yellow alert, indicating heavy rainfall, for few south coastal Andhra Pradesh districts on Friday and Saturday.
Parts of Srikakulma, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Anakapalle, ASR, Konsaseema, Kakinada, Eluru, East Godavari and West Godavari districts experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday.
A low-pressure-area formed over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on Thursday. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well-marked over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on Friday. Thereafter, while moving towards north AP and adjoining South Odisha coasts, it is likely to intensify into a depression over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during subsequent two days. Director of IMD-Amaravati, S Stella, said, “ Isolated parts of Srikakulam, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, ASR, Kakinada, East Godavari, Konaseema, West Godavari and Krishna district will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and parts of Eluru, NTR, Palnadu, Guntur and West Godavari district will experience heavy rainfall on Friday.”
“On Saturday, parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram Manyam, ASR, Eluru West Godavari districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains while isolated parts of Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, East Godavari, Konaseema and West Godavari district are likely to receive heavy rains,” she added.
Visakhapatnam city and Palakonda in Manyam districts recorded the highest rainfall (six centimetre) each in the state between Wednesday and Thursday morning, followed by five centimetre each in Garugubilli (Manyam), Bheemili (Visakhapatnam), Mandasa, Kalingapatnam, Tekkali and Ichchapuram locations in Srikakulam district. Many parts of the north Andhra Pradesh recorded rainfall between one and four centimetre during the period.

A landslide at Anuskura Ghat already halted traffic on the Rajapur-Kolhapur highway. Residents are advised to be vigilant regarding reduced visibility, slippery roads, and possible flash floods in several areas.
