Andhra Pradesh: Councillor slaps himself with slipper for ‘unkept promises’

VISAKHAPATNAM: A councillor in Narsipatnam municipality of Anakapalli district slapped himself with a slipper on Monday for failing to fulfil the promises he made to his voters. The councillor of ward 20 of Narsipatnam, M Ramaraju, vented his frustration during the council meeting on Monday. The video of his act went viral on social networking platforms.



During the meeting, Ramaraju said it has been more than two-and-a-half years since he was elected councillor of the ward, but he has done nothing to solve the civic issues like drainage, water supply connection, power, sanitation, and roads in his ward. Ramaraju said he was not happy as he could not meet the basic needs of the people in his ward, and hence punished himself.

The councillor, who ekes out a living by driving an auto-rickshaw in Narsipatnam, claimed that he tried to use all the channels to solve the problems but failed.

Expressing strong displeasure at the officials of the municipality, Ramaraju said the authorities have done nothing in ward 20 for the past three years.
