VISAKHAPATNAM: A flash fire at a pharma company in Anakapalli district led to the deaths of three people, with two more succumbing to burn injuries following the accident on August 23. The incident occurred at Syngene Active Ingredients Pvt Ltd, located at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Parawada, when a chemical powder and chemical liquid were mixed without following standard operating procedures, leading to an explosion.
Anakapalli SP M Deepika Patil said to PTI , 'Two more injured persons died. One person died yesterday night and another person died Monday morning'.
The victims were identified as Lal Singh Poorthy, 22, who died on Sunday night, and K Suryanarayana, 35, who succumbed on Monday morning. Prior to these deaths, another worker, Roy Angira, 21, had passed away on Saturday.
The lone survivor, Oybon Khora, 23, remains in critical condition. The accident initially injured a chemist and three workers from Jharkhand, highlighting the dangerous conditions they were working under.
The flash fire took place around 12.30 am on August 23 due to the improper mixing of chemicals, which generated fumes and static electricity, ultimately igniting the blast.
Syngene Active Ingredients, headquartered in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, operates two units and Jaahnavee Life Sciences in JN Pharma City, employing around 600 people.
