VIJAYAWADA: Nine persons were killed and over 10 others injured in two separate road accidents in Chittoor on Friday morning.

An ambulance met with a road accident at Tella Gundlapalli on the Bangalore-Tirupati National Highway in Tavanampally mandal.

The ambulance driver who was sleepy, hit a parked oil tanker. Four persons died on the spot and one man was injured.

The victims hailing from Orissa are taking their relative back to their hometown in an ambulance after being treated at Bangalore Victoria Hospital.

In another incident, people from Belgavi in Karnataka were returning home after visiting Tirumala.

Their vehicle collided head-on with a lorry near Matampali Cross on Friday morning. Five persons died on the spot and nine were injured.
