Gayathri Nagar declared containment zone by VMC

positive case was registered in the city on Wednesday. A 22-year-old student from the United States of America who reached the city on March 22 tested positive and is being treated at the Vijaywada Government General hospital.

zone as the patient resided in the colony for more than three days. They have closed all connecting roads with barricades and restricted the movement of the public in the containment zone.

City police, meanwhile, have arranged around 12 check posts in the Gayathri Nagar area and are tracking movements of vehicles. VMC health staff are maintaining a register of vehicles and local residents stepping out of the colony. Civic authorities sprayed sodium hypochlorite and conducted sanitation drive in the colony on Thursday. Ward volunteers and health workers were roped in to take down the details of the neighbouring houses in Gayathri Nagar.

“All residents of Gayathri Nagar are under our observation and we have directed the family members of the patients to self-quarantine themselves, said Dr V Ramakoteswara Rao assistant health officer at VMC.
