Rajahmundry: The Polavaram police in Eluru district successfully cracked a major house burglary case that took place in Jagannadhapeta village under the Polavaram mandal.
During the investigation, stolen property worth ₹29 lakh, including gold and silver articles, was recovered.On May 13, Padmanabuni Srinivas Gupta, a resident of Jagannadhapeta village, had gone to Rajahmundry for medical treatment along with his wife. Taking advantage of their absence, unidentified persons broke into their house and decamped with a large quantity of gold and silver jewelry, along with cash. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at ₹29,43,588.
A case was registered at the Polavaram Police Station under Sections 331(3) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Acting on the directives of the Eluru district SP, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of M Venkateswara Rao, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Polavaram. Led by P Bala Suresh Babu, circle inspector (CI) of Polavaram, based on credible intelligence, the police apprehended the accused, Usurumarthi Ganga Jalam, on June 3, near the Tadipudi Lift Irrigation area. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed the location where he had hidden the stolen items.The police recovered the stolen property from a trunk box in the accused's old house. The accused admitted to having spent a part of the stolen cash on gambling.
