Andhra Pradesh crime down 6.2%, SC/ST cases drop 24%, crime against women down by 3.8%

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh recorded a 6.17% decline in overall crime in 2025, with total registered cases falling from 1,10,193 in 2024 to 1,03,397 in 2025, according to data released by Andhra Pradesh DGP Harish Kumar Gupta at the annual press conference.Rioting cases dropped sharply by 53.88%, from 534 to 246, while bodily non-law-and-order crimes declined by 10.21% to 20,075 cases. Property crimes reduced marginally by 1.27%, from 17,630 to 17,406. Crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes saw a significant 24.32% reduction, falling from 2,402 to 1,818 cases.Economic offences, however, rose by 4.78%, increasing from 7,667 to 8,034 cases, driven mainly by cheating and criminal breach of trust. Cyber and IT Act-related cases declined by 18.94%, from 2,877 to 2,332.Murder cases declined by 9.8%, from 856 in 2024 to 772 in 2025, while attempts to murder rose by 11.6% to 1,566 cases. Kidnapping cases decreased by 16%, from 768 to 645. Grievous hurt cases declined to 20.2 %, whereas simple hurt cases declined by 10.7%.During 2025, police maintained 26,518 rowdy sheets, enforced the Preventive Detention Act in 153 cases, issued 15 externments, and executed 11,728 bound-over actions. Property crime detection stood at 56%, with 55% recovery, significantly higher than the national average detection rate of 33.8%.Crimes against women declined by 3.8%, from 16,994 cases in 2024 to 16,347 in 2025. Rape and gang rape cases fell by 62.7%, from 14 to 5, while murders of women declined by 37.4%. POCSO cases reduced by 11.4%, from 2,120 to 1,879.Convictions in crimes against women and POCSO cases totalled 510, including 7 death sentences, 126 life imprisonments, and 258 convictions carrying sentences ranging from five to 25 years. The Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences improved its monitoring efficiency from 48% to 78.47%.Under Operation Trace, police traced 1,262 missing girls and 2,648 women in the last four months. Among girls aged 14–18 years, the tracing success rate was 80%, while 47% of traced women were in the 19–29 age group.Cyber fraud complaints stood at 62,414 in 2025, down from 66,507 in 2024. FIRs declined from 2,877 to 2,332, while total financial losses reduced from Rs 974 crore to Rs 815 crore, a 16.3% drop. Police froze Rs 98 crore in bank accounts and successfully refunded Rs 3 crore during 2025. Over two years, combined losses amounted to Rs 1,789 crore, with Rs 221 crore frozen and Rs 7.7 crore refunded.Total road accidents fell by 3.8%, from 18,430 to 17,730, while non-fatal accidents declined by 6.5%. Fatal accidents remained nearly unchanged, increasing marginally by 0.1%, with deaths reducing slightly from 8,150 to 8,123.NDPS cases dropped by 7.9%, from 1,875 to 1,727. Police arrested 9,478 accused, seized 1,525 vehicles, and conducted 31,448 awareness programmes. Under the EAGLE framework, 99,836 kg of ganja and 96.45 litres of hashish oil were destroyed. A total of 75 PIT NDPS cases were booked, and Rs 9.11 crore worth of assets were attached.The overall conviction rate rose to 50.1% in 2025, up from 43.5% in 2024. Lok Adalats disposed of 92,423 cases, compared to 70,499 the previous year. Forensic pendency fell to 1,684 cases, with a 93% disposal rate, and over 24,000 long-pending reports cleared. Average forensic turnaround time stood at 14 days for NDPS cases and 21 days for others.Emergency response time under 112 services reduced by 50%, from 30 minutes in May 2025 to 15.53 minutes in November 2025, outperforming the national average of 17.26 minutes. Police deployed 1.4 lakh CCTVs, aiding detection in 2,514 cases, and recovered 35,116 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 56.42 crore.Police welfare expenditure stood at Rs 53.39 crore, while Rs 58.21 crore was spent on cashless medical treatment covering 13,434 cases. Housing and personal loans amounted to Rs 389.62 crore. Infrastructure, technology, forensic upgrades, and training collectively accounted for over Rs 200 crore in spending during 2025.
