TIRUPATI: Eighty-two poll-related cases were registered in Chittoor and
Tirupati districts.
Chittoor SP Vikrant Patil said 44 poll-related cases were registered in the district. “Apart from stone pelting at Thamballapalle in which one person was killed and the attack on Puthalapattu YSRC candidate M S Babu the polling was peaceful,” said Patil. He said police pickets were in place at sensitive villages in Chandragiri assembly constituency.
“A three-layered security system with two CRPF jawans, two APSP platoons and 76 armed policemen as well as special parties of Chittoor in addition to civil forces are guarding strong room locations at SITAMS and SVCET colleges,”, he said.
Meanwhile, Tirupati SP K K N Anburajan said polls under urban police jurisdiction was held without any untoward incident in the district. Though there was a decrease in deployment of central forces despite increase in overall number of polling booths and routes, polls were conducted in a free and fair environment, he said.
“Cash seized across the urban police wing this poll season is about Rs 3.13 crore which is Rs 3.05 crore higher compared to the 2014 elections. Apart from the cash, 55 grams of gold, 25.5 kg silver and other articles worth Rs 17.59 lakh was also seized during the polls”, added the Tirupati SP.
