VARANASI: A sub inspector of crime branch
Rakesh Srivastava, who was recently transferred to Ghazipur, tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist at a hotel on Tuesday. He was admitted to a hospital in
Maldahiya
area, where his condition was stated to be stable. The police are investigating the matter.
According to reports, Srivastava, a native of Allahabad, had been in Varanasi posted in crime branch for past two years. Presently, he was staying at a hotel in
Pared Kothi
area. On Tuesday morning the hotel staff saw him bleeding profusely, and immediately informed the police. He was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition.

told TOI that police are trying to find out the cause of his extreme step. The police officials had a brief chat with him when he regained consciousness. In preliminary examination it appeared to be some family tension that instigated him to take the extreme step, said Arya adding that his family has been informed and they are on way to Varanasi. Srivastava was transferred to Ghazipur on October 25, but he has been living in Varanasi.
