Proxy candidate held for appearing in UP Board Class XII exam for friend
Varanasi: Police on Tuesday arrested a teenager for allegedly appearing in the Class XII Physics examination of the UP Board as a proxy candidate for his friend in the city last year. His friend has already been arrested.
A case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
According to police, a team from Sindhora police station, led by sub-inspector Shwetanshu Pandey, conducted a raid in Piyari village in the Chaubepur area and arrested the 18-year-old accused. He was wanted in connection with an impersonation case during the Class XII exam held at SB Inter College, Bunchi, on March 6, 2025.
Investigations revealed that Narayan had appeared in the examination in place of his friend, a resident of Fattepur village. During the examination, the invigilator noticed that the photograph on the admit card did not match the one on the Aadhaar card. On verification, it was found that the candidate was impersonating another examinee.
Based on the invigilator’s written complaint, a case was registered. The actual examinee was arrested on March 31 this year and legal action was taken against him.
During interrogation, the impersonator confessed that he appeared in the examination in place of his friend, who was weak in Physics. He took his friend’s Aadhaar card and admit card and reached SB Inter College to appear in the examination. When the invigilator caught him, he jumped off the first floor and fled.
