Oppn seeking political gain in Maha Kumbh tragedy: BJP

Varanasi: Targeting the opposition for questioning Maha Kumbh death toll and using terms like Mrityu Kumbh, BJP spokesman and Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi on Sunday said that the opposition is seeking political gain in the Maha Kumbh tragedy.
Talking to reporters, Trivedi, who was in the city on Sunday to address a session on the Union budget for BJP cadres, attacked Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav for questioning the death toll during Maha Kumbh stampede. He said, "Raising doubts is his (Akhilesh) old habit as he had termed Covid-19 vaccines as BJP's vaccine, kept questioning the 'Muhurt' of the consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, and now he has doubts on the number of deaths in the Maha Kumbh tragedy. Instead of showing sensitivity, he is searching for political satisfaction in the incident." Taking a jibe at other opposition leaders for remarks like 'Mrityu Kumbh', he said that these are the same parties that were holding conventions to find ways for eradication of Sanatan in Tamil Nadu and taking part in a worldwide campaign of dismantling global Hinduism. Praising the successful organization of Maha Kumbh in UP, Trivedi said that the event has not only boosted the economy of the region but has also played a major role in cultural awakening.
"Policies of PM Modi's govt have changed the dimensions of tourism in the country. Gone are those days when Agra was known for the highest tourist footfall in UP, as after the rejuvenation of Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Ram Mandir's opening in Ayodhya, a very heavy footfall of tourists is taking place there," said Trivedi. He also took a jibe at the opposition over the issue of deportation of illegal Indian immigrants by the US, saying that they are opposing India's efforts to tackle illegal immigration. "The same opposition, which is tearing up over this episode, has been opposing India's bid to take action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants by introducing CAA and NRC. They don't see any security threat to the nation from illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as the opposition sees them as a vote bank," said Trivedi.
The issue of illegal immigrants in India is completely different from the US, he said, adding, "In India, the opposition finds a vote bank in illegal immigrants. It was the regime of the Congress-led alliance when genuine visitors and even dignitaries like former President Abdul Kalam and celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan were frisked in an objectionable way, and the then govt preferred to sit idle until the BJP raised the issue strongly."
Instead of questioning the friendly relations between India and the US, Akhilesh should try to know whether Congress has remained its friend or not, said Trivedi, asking the opposition to clarify the current status of the INDI Alliance.
Trivedi highlighted the key features of the recently tabled Union budget, saying, "Despite the global recession, the Modi govt has presented a budget in which the interests of all sections of society have been served, while it will take the country forward in the direction of becoming a developed nation by 2047."
