VARANASI: Union youth affairs and sports minister Anurag Thakur on Friday said India has the biggest youth population in the world and they will put the country among the top three economies in the world.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Youth20 Summit of G20 at Rudraksh International Convention Centre in Varanasi, Thakur spoke about the country's achievements in nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government and added that the country has emerged as the fifth largest economy in the world.

"India has the largest youth population. The youth power will take India among the top three countries of the world," he said.

Speaking about the five-point theme of Y20, he said as the host of G20, India has an essential role in shaping the discussions and fostering collaboration among the member countries. "This comes with significant responsibilities as the decision taken at this summit can impact the lives of billions of people across the globe," Thakur said.

Thakur said by 2030, the youth will dominate the global demography with a considerable portion hailing from south Asia. "The Y20 Summit provides a platform for these young people to work together, find common ground and devise collective solutions to tackle these global challenges," he added.

UP ministers AK Sharma, Girish Chandra Yadav, Anil Rajbhar, Ravindra Jaiswal were also present at the event.
