Varanasi: In compliance with a Supreme Court order, Varanasi district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha on Thursday started hearing the arguments of

Gyanvapi

mosque management committee, the Anjuman Intejamia Masajid, challenging the maintainability of case no. 693/2021 Rakhi Singh vs UP government and others in which plaintiffs have sought permission for offering prayer at Shringar Gauri and other deities under Order VII rule 11 of Civil Procedure Code.
After almost two-hour-long arguments by

AIM

advocate

Abhay Nath Yadav

, the court fixed the next date for hearing as May 30 when AIM arguments would continue.
Talking to TOI, Yadav said, “We challenged the maintainability of case no. 693/2021 in the light of many legal provisions and orders of the Apex Court in many cases. Only on the claims of the women plaintiffs, their demands can’t be allowed. They have not produced evidence in support of the claims made in their petition. Claims made by the plaintiffs in different paragraphs of their petitions are contradictory in itself.”
