Gorakhpur to soon have 500-bed working women's hostel, construction begins
Gorakhpur: In a major push towards women empowerment, construction of a 500-bed working women’s hostel has started in Gorakhpur under the Chief Minister Shramjeevi Mahila Chhatravas Yojana.
The project, coming up at Khuthan in Chargawan block, will be built at a cost of Rs 47.38 crore and is targeted for completion by Sept 2027.
Spread across 6,640 square metres, the hostel is being developed by the women and child welfare department. CM Yogi Adityanath is likely to formally inaugurate the construction work soon. Soil testing, survey work and piling activities have already begun at the site.
Officials of the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd said that the agency executing the project, the hostel building will have stilt parking and eight floors above it. The facility will house 250 rooms with single, double and triple-bed arrangements.
Project manager Neeraj Gupta said that the of the sanctioned amount for the project, the first instalment of Rs 16.58 crore has already been released. The hostel will include CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, a crèche, gymnasium, auditorium, laundry, canteen, departmental store and vehicle parking facilities. Rainwater harvesting and horticulture work are also part of the plan.
Officials said that women wardens, guards and housekeeping staff will be deployed to ensure safety and smooth functioning of the hostel.
The state government is constructing similar hostels in seven districts, including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra and Meerut. Meanwhile, the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation is already building a separate 75-bed working women’s hostel near Sahara Estate under the Mukhyamantri Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana at a cost of Rs 18.08 crore, officials said.
