PU students win nat’l khadi contest
Vadodara: Students of city-based Parul University’s Institute of Design have won best khadi concept award at the recently held National Designer Awards hosted by Khadi Design Council of India.
Over 100 designers had participated and showcased over 400 garments at this national platform to innovate and visualize ways in which khadi could be developed into a global fabric through exports.
Three students of Parul University - Krima Patel, Nitya Dixit and Yukta Mehta – had showcased 23 of their garments during the event.
Their designs featured a perfect blend of both western and Indian couture bringing an essence of cultural integration. The designs were inspired by an ancient Japanese fashion, based on the ancient culture and western civilization, stitched together in a minimalistic way. The other theme was based on a conceptualization of India’s metro life.
“I am so grateful to have been able to get an opportunity to stand on such a grand platform and showcase our designs, with the insights from such significant pillars of fashion industry. I am thankful that our university gave us such a vital practical exposure,” said Krima.
In addition to the award that design students won, professor Palak Patel, vice dean of faculty of design, was also awarded for her efforts in mentoring the students.
“The students of design have been continuously bringing pride to our university by not only taking part in these competitions, but by also innovating sustainable solutions to impact the fashion industry,” said PU’s president Dr Devanshu Patel.
