Vadodara: BJP MLA from Dabhoi,
Shailesh Mehta
, has written a letter to the chief minister seeking water from the
Narmada project for irrigation in his constituency.
Mehta
said that agriculture in
Dabhoi
was affected due to lack of irrigation.
Mehta stated in his letter that the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd had stopped supplying water for irrigation from March 31. He added that water from the canal was still being provided to industries.
Mehta pointed out that water should not be given to industries at the cost of agriculture, which might make farmers stage an agitation. Mehta stated that there were 20 rehabilitation colonies of Narmada project affected people in his constituency and four of them were dependent largely on agriculture that in turn was dependent on Narmada water.
Mehta pointed out that farmers who had tubewells would not be affected, but those dependent on Narmada water will suffer. He stated that besides agriculture, even cattle were suffering as water was not available.
