MSU releases question bank for BCom (Hons) entrance test

Vadodara: The faculty of commerce at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) on Sunday released a question bank for the entrance test for admission to the first-year BCom (Hons) programme, marking a major shift in its admission process.This is the first time the faculty, which accounts for nearly half of MSU's total student strength, is introducing an entrance test for BCom admissions as part of a broader overhaul aimed at standardising intake.The question bank, comprising around 500 questions, has been made public to help students prepare for the MCQ-based examination.As announced earlier by dean Prof Pragnesh Shah, admissions from the 2026–27 academic year will follow a composite merit system, with 75% weightage to Class 12 marks and 25% to the entrance test.The online test will have 100 questions to be answered in 100 minutes and will be conducted in both English and Gujarati. It will assess English proficiency, logical reasoning, and core commerce subjects, including accountancy, statistics, economics and business studies.The introduction of the entrance test comes alongside other key changes in the admission framework. The faculty has increased the quota for Vadodara-based students from 85% to 95%, limiting outstation seats to 5%. It has also reduced reliance on the higher payment category, bringing such seats down from over 3,100 last year to around 1,800, while expanding seats under the regular fee structure.Overall intake has been increased to 6,793 seats, including new job-oriented programmes, as the faculty moves to rationalise admissions and ease pressure on infrastructure caused by high self-financed intake in previous years.
