Based on a complaint of cheating registered against him by Ashok Parmar, cops arrested Vishal Joshi, a resident of Gorwa.

Parmar told the police that Joshi met him in January last year and introduced himself as the regional manager of

State Bank of India

(SBI).

“Joshi even gave a visiting card to Parmar to convince him that he was working with the SBI. The accused offered Parmar to help him recover Rs 20 lakh that the latter’s clients had invested in a private company KBCL,” the police said.

“When Parmar agreed to take help, Joshi began demanding money from him under various pretexts. He first took Rs 4 lakh from Parmar in instalments, then took another Rs 65,000 for getting Parmar’s daughter admitted in a college in Anand,” a police official said.

However, in last 22 months, Joshi could neither recover any money nor get Parmar’s daughter admitted to the college.

When Parmar demanded his money back, 32-year-old Joshi threatened him of not returning him the money.

Parmar then approached the crime branch and filed a complaint.

“We investigated the matter and found that Joshi wasn’t working with any bank. He works as an executive with a telecom company and was posing as bank manager,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime).

“Joshi wanted to earn some quick money so he duped Parmar. A similar complaint of cheating has been registered against Joshi at Jawaharnagar police station in the past,” Jadeja told TOI.

When asked if there is any accomplice of Joshi, Jadeja said that Joshi planned and executed the plan of cheating Parmar alone. The cops are inquiring if Joshi has cheated any more citizens.
